The long-awaited launch of the new café at Lawnbrook Estate is now here and EPH caught up with owner, Rebekah Wilson, to find out more.
Opening tomorrow, the Packing Shed @ Lawnbrook will be serving up sumptuous farmhouse fare from their beautifully renovated venue in the Bickley Valley. Specialising in a relaxed vibe and ‘all things homemade and local’, the café will be serving up breakfast and lunch from Friday – Sunday each week.
Owning and running the Lawnbrook Estate and café has been a long-held dream for Rebekah and Bruce after holding their wedding reception at the property 18 years ago. Poring over the property pages paid off, when they managed to secure their dream 2.5 years ago. For the last year, they have been lovingly restoring the property, preparing their first vintage and refining their menus.
Now it’s time to taste!
Starting with breakfast, try their homemade crumpets with lemon curd and honey, crunchy granola, free-range eggs with all the sides or their specialty ‘Shakshuka’ – a middle-eastern dish served in a cast iron pot with two poached eggs. Definitely worth cycling or walking over the hills and valleys for!
Stopping by for lunch, sample the pie of the week, farmhouse quiche or one of the two platters; which feature their home-baked and glazed ham, and homemade pickles and chutneys. Kids and those wanting vegetarian or gluten-free options are also well catered for.
With four new wine varieties available at their cellar door or to accompany your lunch, it’s certainly a feast for the senses. Don’t forget you can also drop in anytime for a homemade cake and some Veneziano coffee, or their limited edition drinks - a Turmeric Latte or a beetroot hot chocolate Yum Yum Yum!
So not only does it fill a gap in our tummies, it also fills a neat gap in the local market (particularly for breakfast) and settles nicely into a growing and diverse range of venues out in the Perth hills.
Each weekend, the front paddock is sure to be lined up with visiting cars but also muddy mountain bikes and gleaming road bikes, as the area is already a mecca for cyclists.
Once the word gets out about this slice of hills heaven – it’s going to be a busy place but there’s room for everyone at this great little spot nestled into the Bickley valley.
The Packing Shed @ Lawnbrook is open on Fridays from 9am-4pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 8am-4pm (Kitchen closes at 3pm). Walk ins and bookings welcome.
Head on over to their new Facebook page for all the latest goings on, menus and foodie shots (Rebekah is a retired professional photographer so expect to see your news feed filled up with mouth-watering delights to tempt you up and over that hill!)
If you would like some help planning a trip to the hills or more details on any of the restaurants, cafes or wineries, pop in to the Perth Hills Visitor Centre, 50 Railway Road in Kalamunda or call and speak to one of the friendly local team on 08 9257 9998.
