It’s Autumn, and we are heading into May which means that its almost time for one of our favourite Hills festivals. The Bickley-Carmel Harvest Festival is in its 21st year, and there are plenty of reasons to celebrate this milestone- here’s our Top 5.
1. Award-winning Wine and Cider
The Perth Hills is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the best wine and cider producing regions in Western Australia. The Bickley, Carmel and Pickering Brook area is home to fifteen of these producers, and quite a few of them have State and National awards under their belts for wine and cider. With so many venues on the list for tastings, bring a driver to chauffeur you and your wine home.
2. Gate to Plate Food
Book a table, a chair or picnic box at one of the venues and taste the freshest Hills produce sourced directly from the farm gate. From an authentic Italian long table to tapas to a funky pop-up burger joint, you’ll find something delicious to munch over the weekend.
*Note: Many restaurants book out. Secure your booking by contacting your preferred venue.
3. Sparkling New Venues
Like a Prosecco or a Sparkling Cider Méthode Traditionelle? Luckily, Harvests new kids on the block have got you covered. Visit the brand new Tonon Vineyard and Winery for your sparkling wine fix and Carmel Cider Co’s pop-up venue for your cider adventure.
4. Scenery
Prettier than the Swan Valley, the Bickley Valley’s Instagram game is strong. If you’re up for some iconic vista selfies or looking for your chance at capturing an Insta-famous shot, this tiny part of the Perth Hills is picture-perfect.
5. Scarecrow Magic
For the last seven years, the crew at Myattsfield Vineyard have been overrun with weird and wacky scarecrows during Harvest. Supporting Muscular Dystrophy WA, the annual Scarecrow competition at Myattsfield is a quirky addition to the festival and fun for everyone. Once you're stuffed full of scarecrow gazing, don’t forget to browse the stalls, get your face painted and sample the best of Myattsfield.
