To celebrate the easing into Phase 3 of the COVID-19: WA Roadmap on June 6, we put on our best stretchy pants and packed the hand sanitizer for our first meal out in what seems like forever. Well, at least several weeks.
Our choice of dining establishment was Kalamunda Tap House, who before the pandemic were the new kids on the restaurant block. Still, with a quick pivot, a new café downstairs and a cult doughnut following, have become a firm Hills favourite.
Now the stretchy pants are a must, but feel free to leave the hand sanitizer at home. These guys are all over the new regulations with a sanni station at the front counter and small bottles on each table nestled with the salt and pepper.
The restaurant was buzzing with the energy of twenty patrons that had just come out of lockdown, and staff and management were quick to address any concerns, as well as proactively requesting feedback and suggestions for the new normal dining out scene. As well as providing boutique drinks and mouthwatering food, customer care is top of the menu at Kalamunda Tap House.
The name Tap House pays homage to the twelve rotating craft beers on tap as well as the odd cider, with a focus on local and Australian beers. The support local stance isn't limited to what's on tap but extended to the wine list that features one of Bickley Valley’s finest, Lawnbrook Estate, along with other carefully curated Australian wines.
The food menu is uncomplicated in offerings and high on quality. Share plates include from Sweet Potato Fries, Crispy Wings and Poppers which we have under good authority (and personal experience) may be renamed as Russian Roulette Poppers, because you just don’t know which one might have some extra bite! Burning hot tip - it was ours.
The mains have all the classics with a great selection of burgers and pizzas and the most sensational seasonal salad for those not so carb inclined. Speaking of carbs, we recommend that you check the dessert menu before deciding on anything else. You are going to want to make sure you have left room for desserts, especially the Stout Chocolate Beetroot Cake and maybe something a little extra from the specials board.
The Kalamunda Tap House offers a relaxed space suitable for the families, a get together with friends, or you could grab a booth for a date night. And did we mention they have the best view in Kalamunda? That's just the dusting on the doughnut.
